What is THCA?
The cannabinoid behind the flower.
THCA is one of the naturally occurring cannabinoids found in raw cannabis and hemp flower. On its own, THCA is generally non-intoxicating. When enough heat is applied, it converts into THC through a process called decarboxylation.
It starts with the plant.
Before THC becomes THC, much of it exists in the plant as THCA — tetrahydrocannabinolic acid. Think of THCA as the raw precursor to THC.
When flower is heated through smoking, vaping or another heating process, a chemical reaction removes part of the THCA molecule and converts it into THC.

The process
What happens when THCA is heated?
The process is called decarboxylation. Heat converts THCA into THC, which can interact differently with the body's endocannabinoid system.
